Job Description

We are seeking an experienced MEP Lead Estimator to lead the preparation of accurate, competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works.

The successful candidate will oversee the estimation process, from reviewing tender documents and coordinating quantity take-offs to evaluating supplier quotations and finalizing pricing proposals. The role requires strong technical expertise in MEP systems, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage estimation teams and tender deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead MEP estimation and tendering activities, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
  • Review drawings, specifications, BOQs, and tender conditions to establish project scope and identify missing information.
  • Prepare and verify quantity take-offs for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works.
  • Develop detailed estimates covering materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, preliminaries, and other project costs.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and confirm compliance with technical specifications.
  • Evaluate quotations, prepare comparison sheets, and identify scope gaps, exclusions, and pricing discrepancies.
  • Assess installation methods, productivity assumptions, site conditions, and project schedules when developing estimates.
  • Identify tender risks and propose appropriate allowances, qualifications, and clarifications.
  • Work with engineering and procurement teams to identify value engineering opportunities that meet project requirements.
  • Guide and review the work of estimators to maintain consistent estimation standards.
  • Prepare tender summaries and pricing recommendations for management review and approval.
  • Maintain updated cost databases, supplier rates, and historical project benchmarks.
  • Support tender clarification meetings, negotiations, and post-tender revisions.
  • Coordinate the handover of awarded tender budgets, pricing assumptions, and scope details to project execution teams.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 10–15 years of relevant experience in cost estimation and tendering within the construction industry.
  • Extensive experience in MEP contracting estimation, including the preparation of comprehensive MEP bids.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, materials, installation methods, and construction techniques.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Candy, or similar estimation and quantity take-off software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, BOQs, and tender documents.
  • Strong understanding of cost build-ups, labor productivity, supplier pricing, and subcontractor quotation analysis.
  • Experience coordinating estimation teams and managing multiple tender submissions.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to deliver accurate estimates within tight deadlines.
